The crisis of marriage and family – a reality met with growing indifference

Every year in Poland more than 130,000 couples marry, believing that together they will build a home, security and a future.
At the same time the statistics are relentless – almost half of all marriages end in breakdown, often in the first years of the relationship, when the children are still small and at their most vulnerable.

A separation never concerns the adults alone.
It always leaves its mark on family relationships, on children’s emotions and on the sense of stability of the whole household.

Contemporary attempts to „glue” relationships back together within new family arrangements rarely resolve the source of the problem, and often deepen the chaos and the sense of being lost.

„Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.”
(Zech 13:7)

The hidden sources of marital crises

Increasingly, one of the invisible sources of marital crises is a lack of purity of heart and of the way we look at others.
An excess of stimuli, of sexual content and of the world of screens enters a relationship quietly, weakening trust, closeness and the capacity for a genuine encounter.

That is why, as part of this path of prayer, we also take up the prayer for purity of the eyes and of the heart – as an integral part of caring for marriage and family.

Dzika & Figa – the perspective of a married couple

Dzika & Figa – wife and husband

We are not writing about this from the perspective of theory.
We have been married for 25 years and we know that love is not only closeness and beautiful moments, but also crises, illness, exhaustion, long stretches of silence and questions to which there are no simple answers.

Who is the Prayer on the Sycamore for?

The Prayer on the Sycamore came into being as real spiritual support for:

– married couples going through a time of trial
– families who feel the bond between them weakening
– people praying for those close to them

Without judging.
Without ready-made prescriptions.
With prayer, with presence and with the hope that a crisis need not mean the end.

„The family is one of the main targets of Satan’s attacks,
because it is there that life, faith and vocations are born.”
Fr Gabriele Amorth, chief exorcist of the Vatican

Shared prayer and Holy Mass

That is why every day we pray the Rosary for the marriages and families entrusted to this intention.
On the last Friday of every month a Holy Mass for all marriages and families is also celebrated
at 6:00 p.m.
in the Parish of Our Lady of Fatima and Blessed Bronisław Markiewicz (the Michaelites)
in Słupno near Radzymin.

It is the shared prayer of many „poor little figs” – imperfect people, but people concerned for those who today most need the light of the Holy Spirit, reconciliation and strength.

One fig is not enough, but a cry raised together from the Sycamore begins to be heard.
